What is Throughput?

Also known as: MPS, Messages per second

Throughput is the rate at which an SMS route can deliver messages, measured in messages per second. It determines how long a bulk campaign takes to land, not whether it will.

Throughput is a property of the route and the sender type. Short codes generally carry more per second than long numbers, and providers queue anything above the available rate rather than rejecting it.

For most campaigns, throughput matters when timing does: a flash sale, a shift-fill request or an outage notice needs to land in minutes, not over an hour.
