What is Sender ID registration?
Sender ID registration is the process of recording a business's alphanumeric sender name on Australia's SMS Sender ID Register so carriers can block anyone else from sending under that name.
The register was introduced to stop SMS impersonation scams, where fraudsters spoof a well-known brand name in the sender field. Once a name is registered, traffic using it from an unauthorised source is blocked at the network.
Registration requires evidence that the business owns the name — an ABN, a trade mark or a matching domain — and is submitted through your SMS provider rather than directly to the ACMA.
