What is MO and MT messages?
Also known as: Mobile Originated, Mobile Terminated
MT (Mobile Terminated) messages are sent from an application to a handset. MO (Mobile Originated) messages travel the other way — a person texts your number and the message arrives in your platform.
Almost everything a business sends is MT. MO traffic is what makes SMS two-way: replies, STOP requests, keyword entries and inbound enquiries.
Receiving MO messages requires a number that belongs to you, which is why a dedicated number is a prerequisite for two-way SMS and keyword automations.
