What is Opt-out?
Also known as: Unsubscribe, STOP reply
An opt-out is a recipient's request to stop receiving marketing messages. Under Australian law it must be honoured within five working days, and in practice good platforms process it instantly.
Every commercial SMS must carry a functional unsubscribe facility. The usual mechanisms are a STOP reply to a dedicated number or a one-tap opt-out link, which works even when messages are sent from an alphanumeric sender ID.
Once a contact opts out, the platform should block further marketing sends to that number automatically rather than relying on someone remembering to remove them from a list.
Texto and Opt-out
STOP processing runs first on every inbound message, always.
